UX Unconference, Nov 22

The User Experience Design & Lean Product Development - NW Ohio meet-up group is organizing a UX-related Unconference on Tuesday, November 22nd (6:30-9pm) at Hanson.

I encourage you to attend! RSVP at meetup.com (and join the group first if you need to). The event will be a great way to learn more about user experience. It is FREE to attend, with FREE food, too!

Unconference?

You have been to conferences: a list of experts talking on a pre-determined list of topics.

Unconferences are different, by design. You bring your favorite topics to the event, specific ones are chosen by the group at the beginning of the event, and then you pick which small group discussions you want to participate in.

So, for the November 22nd event, you should start thinking of things you want to learn more about. Maybe they are user research topics from the "User Research for Everyone" semi-virtual conference. Or from a UX-related book you are reading. Or a tweet that you saw.

Instead, you can reflect on what you are doing now and choose something that you want to share. Working on a customer journey map or struggling with how to solve a thorny user interface design problem? Bring your map or wireframe or other work product (not a refined presentation) and maybe the group will help you with it.

If you have some topics ready now, you can submit them when you RSVP. Or, RSVP first and add a comment later with your topic ideas.

The plan is to have 3 iterations of sessions at the unconference. You will have several chances to lead the discussion on one of your topics and to join in on someone else's topic. Pizza and soft drinks will be provided to keep the unconferencing going.

I have participated in several unconferences and love the format. I like being able to bring my own (half-baked) ideas. I learn better in small group discussions (vs. presentations). I hope you can make it!
