People Skills for UX, May 27

Toledo showing of Rosenfeld Media speakers

Another all-day UX conference for the Toledo region is ON for Wednesday May 27th!

Experts from outside the design world will be paired with UX leaders on the topics of listening, facilitation, negotiation, and leadership.

Learn more about the Rosenfeld Media virtual conference speakers, but do not register there. Instead, check out our Call for Sponsors for our local conference. Starting today, companies and organizations can sponsor our local conference for $100, giving them access to purchase tickets now. Tickets for individuals will not go on sale for two more weeks.

Our hosts will be LaunchPad Incubation at the University of Toledo. See the Call for Sponsors for the list of sponsor benefits, a tentative schedule, options for paying, and other details.

The May 13th Toledo Web Professionals meet-up features University of Michigan student Selwyn Jacob, presenting an update of his World Information Architecture Day presentation Lessons from Dashboard Design. Some of the things he might cover:
  • Break conventions
  • Simplify
  • Info at first sight
  • Get extra makeup out of the way
We also welcome a new sponsor/host: Owens Corning.

RSVP at meetup.com.
A new meet-up about user experience was started last week: User Experience Design & Lean Product Development. Some excerpts from the group description:
  • UX is about validating assumptions through ideation, prototyping and testing interactively with real users
  • Learn and share in the emergent practices of UX design and lean product development
  • Collaborate, motivate and encourage each other to build great products
Check out the meet-up group and join. The first meet-up is still being scheduled, but the target is some time in May.
Save the dates of June 15-16-17 for the Internet User Experience conference in Ann Arbor. The IUE conference was started in 2005 and features methods for dramatically improving today's web site user experience.

Monday, June 15th is a pre-conference tutorial day. The main conference is two full days of presentations, Tuesday the 16th & Wednesday the 17th.

This year's conference will be at the Michigan League on the campus of the University of Michigan. You can drive back-and-forth from Toledo each day, or choose to stay overnight. (We may organize carpools from Toledo.) The Ann Arbor Summer Festival will be going on at the same time.

See iueconference.com for more information.
